 Amateur Dog Racing Sunday 20th July 2008 - 23.06.2008
Amateur Dog Racing will be taking place at the Rescue Centre, Ipplepen on Sunday 20th July. Registration will be from 12 midday - first race 1.00 pm. Entry forms are available from the Rescue Centre and the Charity's shops and should be returned by 15th July.
The course is approx. 50 meters long, run in lanes, separated by wire netting. The dogs are handicapped according to size and breed and must be accompanied by two handlers - one to hold at the start, the other to back away down the course and call from behind the line. A trophy will be awarded to the overall winner with prizes for 2nd and 3rd. The entry fee of £1.00 per dog will be collected on the day. Unfortunately, no Whippets, Greyhounds or Lurchers are allowed to race in the main event. However, there will be a special race at the end of the day for these breeds.

 RESCUE CENTRE OPEN DAY - 09.06.2008
The Annual Open Day at the Rescue Centre held on Sunday 15th July was a great success. Despite some heavy showers of rain, the crowds turned up and enjoyed the Fun Dog Obstacle Racing, visiting the Birds of Prey and browsing around the various stalls. The BBQ was very popular as usual and delicious burgers and rolls were available all day.
The amount raised was almost £2,000 which is more than last year and a great time was had by all.

 Update on Thorn - 12.05.2008
Thorn is a thirteen month old Rottweiler who urgently needed a hip replacement.
Thorn is currently being cared for by the Animals in Distress Rescue Centre in Ipplepen. He is a lovely boy - full of fun but he cannot run and play like other dogs because of his hip problem. The operation is very expensive but will hopefully enable Thorn to live a normal doggy life.

 Fashion Show Success - 09.05.2008
The Fashion Show and Cabaret held at the Grand Hotel on Sunday 11th was a great success.
The event was attended by over 100 people and raised over £1,000 for Animals in Distress.

 Sponsored Dog Walk & Quiz - 28.04.2008
The annual Sponsored Dog Walk took place at the Rescue Centre in Ipplepen on Sunday 27th April. Over 35 dogs and their owners enjoyed the walk around country lanes, despite the occasional downpour. It is estimated that over £1,500 will be been raised for the Charity once all the sponsorship money has been collected.
This year, the walk also included an optional quiz - the answers to the clues could be found along the route. The winner of the quiz, sponsored by Pet Plan, was Lorna Johnson who completed the walk with her dog, Dillon and also raised over £100 in sponsorship. Well done, Lorna!
